What is NY Business Expo 2012?

NY Business Expo 2012 is a disruptive and interactive B2B trade show that focuses on showcasing innovative products and services from startups and small businesses in the tri-state area. The event will take place at the 69th Regiment Armory on November 14th and 15th. Small Business Classroom and Startup Central provide essential resources to help business owners and startup entrepreneurs succeed. iLounge features Internet-connected devices and seating areas that make the show more dynamic and fun. General admission is free for the Exhibiting Floor and Startup Central. Sign up today to become part of the EXPO experience!

How is this expo different?

Startup Central and Small Business Classroom make our program really stand out. We only feature top tier startup mentors and small business speakers. iLounge provides a truly relaxing and fun environment for business networking and Internet surfing. The 2012 NY Business Expo also includes a Startup Demo Day, co-hosted by StartEngine. All these aspects make us unique!

What is the time for the expo?

Nov. 14, 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM and Nov. 15, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM - Exhibiting Floor, Conference, and Startup Central. For after parties (Alley NYC), the time is 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM for both 11/14 and 11/15. StartEngine Demo Day starts at 8:30 am in the morning of Nov. 14.

Do I need to pay to get in?

The Show Floor is free to pre-registered expo attendees. Startup Central is free to attend too, but we require you to at least work in the consumer web, software or hardware industry to talk to our mentors. Students are welcome too! For the two-day conference (Small Business Classroom), price starts from $100. Price will go up once the Early Bird price ends.

I want to talk to a specific mentor. How can I do that?

The best advice is to arrive early. Most likely we're going to implement a system that works with the old adage "first come, first served."

My business has nothing to do with startups. Should I still attend or exhibit?

Sure. Startups are only part of what we focus on with the expo. At least half of the attendees or exhibitors will fall into the small business category that may have nothing to do with consumer web startups.

What is StartEngine?

Start Engine is a rapid accelerator focused on helping Los Angeles-based technology startups build a solid foundation for success in 90 days.  Created by Howard Marks, co-founder of Activision, and Paul Kessler, one of the most prolific investors in Los Angeles, Start Engine will provide local startups with the essential resources and counsel they need to become successful, self-directed businesses.  Start Engine offers a team of mentors who have proven themselves as successful entrepreneurs – not professional investors – ensuring that its startups are guided by the right people for the right reasons. Early-stage companies in the web, mobile and ecommerce space are encouraged to apply for the program which completes four cycles per year, culminating in Demo Days that are attended by the region’s top angel investors and VCs.

How do I know which booths are already sold?

If you'd like to order a booth, first download our floor plan here. Then give us a call at 347.586.9326 to find out if the booth you desire has already been sold. You can also get in touch with us via this form.

What are the best practices for expo attendees?

Please keep in mind that this is not a job fair or free-pitch event. Do NOT bring your resume or pitch your own business to our exhibitors. We will have floor personnel assigned to this task. Obsessive pitching may make you disqualified for attending the show. But for the after hour party, do bring enough business cards and introduce your business to others.

Will the food and drinks be free at the after parties?

Absolutely. The after parties are sponsored by Wichcraft. Cocktails will be served and hor d’oeuvres will be passed around.

Where will the after parties be held?

AlleyNYC
500 7th Ave., 17th Floor
New York, NY, 10018

If I don't pre-register, will I get charged if I show up at the door?

Yes. For Exhibiting Floor and Startup Central, it's $10 for walk-ins.

How many full-color magazines and gift bags do you have to give away?

2,000 each. We will give them away to the first 1,000 arrivers in each day?

What can I find in those gift bags?

Gift cards, coasters, pens, books, etc. All of them are useful items from our exhibitors that will help you grow your business.
